What a Year!
Preteen years, Tokyo, walking bass lines, two job changes, and a first-place winning spooky story were all part of an action-packed 2025 for our crew!
We wish you the happiest of holidays and the most joyful season. If you happen to be in Menlo Park, please let us know!
Two Big Kids and a Little Pup
This year, Alex is 12 years old and in Sixth Grade. She has been at the Middle School Campus since last year, so she really knows the ropes.
At the end of Fifth Grade, Alex represented her class in Student Council where she brought her artistic talents to the Food Drive banners and flyers. This fall, she has been working with a writing coach, and her story won first place in the school-wide Spooky Story Contest! You can read it here, but be warned that it is gory!
Alex continues singing, performing "Rise Up" by Andra Day this summer. She is currently studying "She Used To Be Mine" by Sara Bareilles, from 2016 Broadway musical Waitress, to sing in January.
In 2025, Alex and her friends spun up a slime pop-up store at the Children's Business Fair. She also ran cross-country and played soccer. She loves Christmas, boba, ramen, snacks, and above all Clover the Cavapoo.
Henry is 10 this year and in Fourth Grade. As a fourth grader, Henry is one of the biggest kids on the Lower School Campus and is having the time of his life, especially playing Foursquare with his friends at recess.
Henry played club soccer this season and is now in club basketball. While he often self-describes as the "GOAT" of Henry's living in our house, he has also often found club sports challenging at times. This summer, he won the Legarza Knockout Contest (taking out 6th and 8th graders, who were his last standing challengers) and also the 4City Summer Camp MVP award.
Henry continues to play the bass in the "Roots of Rock 'n' Roll" performance band, where he is playing Johnny B Goode, Great Balls of Fire, Pretty Woman, and Jailhouse Rock.
Henry loves milk, stroganoff, the song "Sick Note" by the Dubliners, "cooking," and -- of course -- Six Seven.
Clover the Cavapoo is a very good girl, and in 2025 continued her work as the littlest and fluffiest member of the family. Her favorite things continue to be belly rubs and chasing after balls, which she enjoys even more than treats.
In the coming year, Clover looks forward to more trips to Half Moon Bay where she can run on the beach and dig in the sand. If you happen to have any peanut butter on hand, Clover would love for you to come and visit.
Early in mid-May 2025, Will started as the CTO of Plaid, a data network fintech company. Beyond work, Will has especially enjoyed the series Dungeon Crawler Carl, which has generally taken the fantasy genre community by storm. He continues rowing, jamming with the kids, and making breakfast on his griddle. He is also working with Henry to defeat the Laser Hell level in Split Fiction, which takes constant dedication and practice.
Two months before Will switched jobs, Lauren joined Common Sense Media as VP Product Innovation & Growth. At Common Sense Media, Lauren professionally pursues her passion of keeping her (frustrated) preteen kids off of screens.
